Heather Redick
Decorative Painting
Heather Redick is best known for her painting techniques
of the Zhostovo folk art style, with delicate borders and
brush stroke techniques.
She began painting in 1989, after retiring as General Manager
for a Canadian professional theatre. In 1990 she opened a
Decorative Art retail store and began giving lessons, teaching
mainly her own designs in both oils and acrylics. While Heather
is primarily self-taught she has studied with Priscilla Hauser
and Russian masters, Larisa Dyatlova and Boris Grafov.
Over the years her business grew, and in 1995 she exhibited
at her first trade show, where she was introduced to Plaid.
Two years later Plaid published her first book, "Zhostovo
Florals." Since then she has published four more books with
Plaid.
In
addition to publishing books, Heather operates a retail/wholesale
decorative art business featuring her books, her brush line,
videos, and custom wood surfaces. Her greatest joy, says Heather,
is travel teaching. She conducts seminars throughout Canada,
the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.
She has even conducted painting lessons via the Internet.
"I am a 'skills' teacher," she says. "The subject can change,
but my teaching remains focused on technique."
