Pat Wakefield
Decorative Painting
Pat Wakefield's decorative painting career began in 1962
in a basement. Since then, her career has gone straight to
the top!
The art of decorative painting got its start in Kansas City,
Kansas at Cambridge House, the first decorative painting shop
in the country. Painters from around the country came to study
there, and Pat was an instructor. Since then she has authored
23 books and 39 painting packets for the decorative painter.
Her first book, "Bears and Hares," was published by Plaid
in 1987.
Pat
studied fine arts at the University of Kansas, and is versatile
in her painting styles and techniques. She uses tube oils,
acrylics, pastels, and watercolors. Her paintings and articles
have been included in many international publications, but
her favorite piece is "Warm From the Oven," which appeared
in her own book, "Country Kitchens."(pictured here) "It was
a challenge to get each piece drawn correctly as to perspective
and to plan the color scheme to be appealing," says Pat. "I
felt a sense of accomplishment after painting the piece."
Pat is a longtime member of the Society of Decorative Painters,
has been a judge in the Society's Certification program, and
has taught at several conventions. Pat received the prestigious
Master Decorative Artist Certification in 1975.
