Susan Branch
Rubber Stamping & Card Making

Through her art and words Susan Branch has come
to be treasured in the hearts and homes of people across the
country. She is an illustrator, an author, a homemaker and,
to her many fans, a friend.
Susan didn't set out to be a successful artist and author.
She was a happy housewife in California. "I was busy making
a nest; working on my garden, painting bunnies jumping up
my stairways and cooking up a storm," she says. But when her
husband told her that marriage just wasn't for him, she decided
to strike out on her own and make a change. She packed up
and moved across the country to Martha's Vineyard where she
knew no one. She was starting over. That was 1982.
As she began to settle into her new life on Martha's Vineyard,
she realized that she needed to find a way to support herself.
Years before a girlfriend had suggested that she take her
drawings and her recipes and create a cookbook. Susan decided
to try it. So she sat at her dining room table
and with her watercolors and over time created her first book.
However, she knew no one in publishing but found someone who
did, and in 1986 Little Brown and Co published her first book,
Heart of the Home. "It was the beginning of a whole
new world for me," she says.
Since then Susan has spread her special message of the importance
of self-confidence, family values and home through a variety
of channels, including books, stationery, fabrics, and now
crafts! "Life is full of surprises," says Susan. "You just
never know…"
